Start with source 6 min read Getting started

Install your first component

Add editable Menace source to an existing shadcn project and verify the result before you customize it.

What you will leave with
A source-ready component running inside your own application.
01

Check the project boundary

A registry install writes source into your project. Confirm the destination before the command changes files.

Run the install from the application that owns your shadcn configuration. If the repository contains more than one app, move into the intended package first and inspect its components.json file.

  • Use the package manager already pinned by the project.
  • Check the configured aliases and component destination in components.json.
  • Preserve unrelated local changes before adding generated source.
02

Run the registry install

Menace registry URLs are absolute so the same command works from local development, previews, and production documentation.

Terminal
pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add https://menaceui.com/r/aurora-button.json
03

Prove the result in context

An import that typechecks can still look or behave incorrectly inside the real page.

Render the component on the surface where it will live. Exercise keyboard focus, disabled behavior, long labels, and the narrowest supported viewport before changing its styles.

Verification
pnpm typecheck
pnpm lint
pnpm build

Keep the proof with the change.
